Moving on to Division

We have been working on Multiplication for the last few weeks, and now we are moving on to DIVISION!!!!! We are using a fun way to learn our division. Ask your child how he/she learned how to divide. (Hint: it has something to do with cookies!!!)

So, one of the best things to continue to do with your child is to keep working hard on memorizing their multiplication facts. This is so so so helpful in continuing to build on what they already know. Division will be so much easier if they "know" their facts. By "know" I mean they know it as soon as they see the multiplication problem. They aren't counting on their fingers or in their head. They have have have to memorize their fast facts. This is one thing that I am absolutely passionate about for my kiddos here! I want every child to "know" their multiplication facts by the time they leave my classroom in May. We start that now and never stop!!!!

Open House

Hello! This week we are going to be having 4th grade Open House for parents on Thursday at 7:00pm. It will be a great time for you to come and hear details about what your child is going to be learning this year, ways you can help out, and have any questions answered. Hope to see you there, and I hope this has been an enjoyable year so far!

First Week of School!!!

Well, as you know we have officially kicked off the 2009-2010 school year! I have an outstanding group of kiddos this year, and I look forward to an AWESOME year!

We started our first Math Unit today. We are going to be spending some time reviewing the "great nemesis" Place Value. I am doing my best giving the children fun, memorable ways to remember how to read super big numbers. This is something we usually have a hard time with, so if you want to help your child at home with practicing how to read and write large numbers, go for it! I am very impressed with how respectful this group of children are. I am genuinely looking forward to teaching them this year.

One funny story to leave you with. I always let my children ask me any personal questions they might have for me, and one of their favorites is asking me how old I am. Not sure why I always am asked this questions, but the kids are usually shocked that I am older than 18. Well, this group of kids seems to think I am in my 30's to 40's. haha That has been a first for me! At recess, I had a couple of girls guessing how old I was and I was surprised that they started their guesses in the 30's and went up from there. :) It made me laugh! Well, being the math teacher that I am, on the first day of school I gave the kids my birthday for them to figure out how old I am. To their surprise, I will only be turning 25 on September 7th. Maybe, I just seem wise to them. :)

I hope you are having a relatively restful week! Please, if you have any questions please email me at aclark1@houstonisd.org.

Summer Happenings

This summer was filled with lots of relaxing! I spent most of my time hanging out at home, but my husband and I did a lot of fun things around the Houston area.
  • We LOVE watching the Astros and going to games as often as we can. We went to three this summer!!! My favorite players are Hunter Pence and Lance Berkman!

  • One of my favorite places to go is the Miller Outdoor Theatre. We like to take a picnic dinner and go with friends to the theatre. We saw a couple of plays and listened to the Houston Symphony a lot!
  • We went there for a few shows throughout the summer, but my favorite was 4th of July. We spent our 4th of July listening to the beautiful music of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and watching fireworks at Miller Outdoor. 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays for sure! I just love love love the fireworks. I think they are absolutely beautiful.

Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Clark's class. I am very excited to have you in my room this year!
